School Field Trips and Educational Programs

Want to take your students back in time? The Chadds Ford Historical Society preserves, maintains, and interprets several early 18th century buildings and utilizes them to educate school children, adults, and our community through hands-on history.

All of our school programs are built to reinforce PA’s Standard Aligned System to coincide with our curriculum. Facilitated by our costumed interpreters, our programs engage students through guided tours or our sites and collections as well as through a variety of hands-on activities.

All of our programs can be tailored to meet the needs and interests of our visitors. Outreach programs are offered to schools who cannot make it out to us.

To ensure that our visitors get the best experience possible, we recommend a maximum number of 75 students. Teachers looking to bring groups larger than that must coordinate with the Education Manager in advance. Students will be split up into groups of 10-15 for the duration of the trip, each requiring at least one teacher or chaparone. Cancelations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Each program lasts 60-90 minutes and costs $6 per student. Teachers can book two programs the same day at a reduced cost of $10 per student. Groups of 35 or more must book two programs.

Another unique aspect of Chadds Ford Historical Society’s educational field trips is that teachers may choose to customize their tours! Special requests for Colonial demonstrations may include open hearth cooking, bread baking, English country dance, candle dipping, or woodworking.
