The Barns Brinton House
The Barns Brinton House was built in 1714 by blacksmith William Barns as a tavern on a major route between Maryland and Philadelphia. He operated it for a few years beginning in 1722. Barns died in 1731. It was later owned by James Brinton.
Today, the house is owned by the Chadds Ford Historical Society and operated as a museum. It is open for tours and special educational programs and events.
The John Chads House
The John Chads House was built in 1725 for John Chads - a Quaker that owned a tavern and operated a ferry across the Brandywine River. John is the namesake of Chadds Ford. His wife Elizabeth lived here alone following John's death in 1760. The house was in the midst of the Battle of Brandywine in September 1777.
Today, the John Cads House is owned by the Chadds Ford Historical Society and operated as a museum. It is open for tours, baking demonstrations and special educational programs and events.
