For many years the Board of Directors has maintained an investment account to hold the money
that is in excess to our normal annual operating expenses. These non-restricted funds are available to the Board for use in maintaining the activities of the Society and to add items to the collection and other activities thought to be appropriate by the Board. The source of the funds has been from donations, legacies and fund raising activities.
In 2003 we received a significant legacy from the G. Rumford estate. The Board of Directors decided to use a portion of these funds to establish an endowment fund. An endowment fund is very restrictive, with only a small portion of the net asset value (5%) available to the Board on an annual basis. It will provide a reliable, ongoing source of revenue to the Society. After reviewing many options, the Board decided to partner with the Chester County Community Foundation to establish the Chadds
Ford Historical Society Endowment Fund.
The Chester County Community Foundation is a premier provider of
philanthropic services in Chester County. In addition, they lead, inspire and
encourage individuals and organizations to create or contribute to lasting
philanthropic charitable legacies to improve the quality of life the county. The
foundation helps more than 150 individuals and families who want to give
something back to their community by managing their charitable giving
effectively and creatively. They also manage endowment funds for many nonprofit
organizations in the county.
The CFHS Endowment Fund accepts small and large gifts, including cash, public traded securities, closely held stock and real estate. The Community Foundation can also work with you on other options, such as bequests, charitable remainder trusts and charitable gift annuities. This is the service that was of particular interest to our Board.
Gifts to the Endowment Fund can be made directly to CCCF/CFHS Endowment Fund in West Chester, PA or through the Society. For more information on the Endowment Fund, please call the Society office and request our bulletin on the Fund. We hope you will support this latest effort toward our future!
