How to Find Us

The Barn and the John Chads House and Springhouse are located at 1736 Creek Road (Old Route 100), one-quarter mile north of U.S. Route 1. The Barns-Brinton House is located on U.S. Route 1, (near the Chaddsford Winery) one and one-half miles west of the Brandywine River Museum and two and one-half miles east of Longwood Gardens. Call 610-388-7376 for more information.

From the Philadelphia area: Take I-95 South to Route 322 West to U.S. Route 1 South to Chadds Ford.

From Wilmington: Take Route 202 North to U.S. Route 1 South to Chadds Ford.  Or take Route 100 North to Chadds Ford.  Or take Route 52 North to U.S. Route 1 North to Chadds Ford.

From the Baltimore/Washington area: Take I-95 North to Wilmington to Route 202 North to U.S. Route 1 South to Chadds Ford.
OR: Take I-95 North to MD Route 24 North (Bel Air exit, N of Bmore), to US 1 North. Advantages over the I-95/US202/US 1 route are several: MD 24 between I-95 and Rt 1 is much shorter than the section thru Delaware, fewer lights, and a 50 mph speed limit most of the way. Much of U.S. 1 on this route is on the limited-access interstate-like section in PA. And, this avoids both of the tolls (and their attendant backups) on I-95 between Baltimore and US 202 (one crossing the Susquehanna River, another at the DE border).

Is Chadds Ford in Delaware County or Chester County?  Both! Chadds Ford is today located in both Chester and Delaware Counties. Chester County was one of the three original counties formed in 1682 by William Penn under the charter signed by King Charles II of England. In 1789 the southeastern townships of Chester County were organized as Delaware County. This included Birmingham Township (settled in 1684 and incorporated in the same year) where Chadds Ford lies.  Today the part of Chadds Ford that lies in Chester County is known as Birmingham Township and that part that lies in Delaware County is known as Chadds Ford Township (this started in 1996).
