An inventory is a listing of all possessions (things) a person owns and the estimated value of each item. In the eighteenth century, all people who owned property had their possessions inventories at the time of their death. This helped pay any outstanding debts the dead person may have had when he or she was alive. It also helped by seeing that the dead person's wishes were granted through his or her will. A will is a list of people that you want certain things of your given to after your death.
