Welcome! The Chadds Ford Historical Society is a private non-profit organization which owns, operates and maintains two 18th century restorations - the John Chads House and the  Barns-Brinton House. Educational programs for school children are conducted year-round by appointment. Events hosted by the Society include Chadds Ford Days, The Great Pumpkin Carve and Candlelight Christmas.  See our Calendar of Events for a complete listing.

Looking for Local Artists UNDER 18!

We want to include the work of local student artists in our new exhibit, "The Historic Houses Through Artists' Eyes." 

Students in grades 1-12 are invited to enter their interpretations.

CHADDS FORD DAYS ARTISTS!

SUBMIT YOUR ARTWORK! 

 All artists are encouraged to apply to the Chadds Ford Days Art Show on Saturday and Sunday, September 6 and 7, 2008. New to this year's show is over $3,000 in cash awards and certificates for artists as well as a GALLERY TENT where artists who do not have a tent can still participate. There is no commission to sell artwork. Applications for the art show will be considered through June 15 or until 50 spaces are filled. Apply early for first consideration. All entries will be judged at the Chadds Ford Days Art Show, and awards include:

  • The John Milner Award for a painting of a 17th or 18th Century Architectural Structure in Chester County ($750) 

  • The Mildred Sands Kratz Award for a watercolor depicting a Chester County Landscape ($250)

  • The Qoro Award ($1,000 in Publishing Services)

  •  The Peoples Choice Award ($250)

  • Ribbons, consumer gifts and certificates will also be awarded

Barns-Brinton House                                        John Chads House

Both houses are available year-round for group and individual tours by appointment only. The Houses are open to the general public on weekends, May - August. Please contact the office for additional details or to make an appointment.

Directions to the John Chads House and Barn Visitors' Center:  Heading Route 1 North - Turn left onto N. Creek Rd. (Old Route 100). Hank's Place is on the left, and the Sunoco station is on the right. The Barn is located 1/2 mile on left.

Heading Route 1 South: Turn right onto N. Creek Rd (Old Route 100). Hank's Place is on the right, and the Sunoco is on the left. The Barn is located 1/2 mile on left.

Directions to the Barns-Brinton House from the Barn Visitors' Center:  Right out of the parking lot onto Creek Rd. (Old Route 100). Turn right onto Route 1 heading South. At second traffic light turn left onto Pond’s Edge Drive. Take the first right (after a parking lot) and follow the road around the bend as if to return to Route 1. The Barns-Brinton House is located on the left just before you reach Route 1 again.
